Cuba to host the world’s largest picnic this coming November with Le Diner en Blanc 2018
Next November Cuba will stage the world’s largest picnic by hosting Le Diner en Blanc for the first time. Created some 30 years ago in Paris, Le Diner en Blanc gathers over 10,000 diners each year for a night of open-air dining in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. In recent years, it has extended to other parts of the world’s most centric locations and Havana is the latest newcomer to this massive French picnic tradition.
For the first time ever Cuba will proudly host its first Diner en Blanc and it will do so in style, like many of the other worldwide cities that have preceded it over the last three decades. Joining the likes of Paris, New York, Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore, Montreal and Mexico City, Havana will be the official host of the world’s largest annual picnic celebration with Le Diner en Blanc 2018.
The announcement was made via the event’s official website and through the social media account of the team organising the event in Havana this year, which is made up of three hosts for whom the event holds. Having attended other editions in past years, Havana’s Le Diner en Blanc expert hosts are Israel Rodriguez, Alejandro Uriarte and Richy Miranda-Cortese.
Le Diner en Blanc is a French initiative created 30 years ago in Paris to unite food-lovers in one single open-air space and dine under the stars. Soon after its first edition and due to its success, Le Diner en Blanc went on to become an annual celebration where hundreds of thousands of diners brought their own food in baskets picnic-style and sit down for a casual meal under open skies.
The exact place where Le Diner en Blanc in Havana will be celebrated this coming 24th November will be kept a secret until the last day, as is customary with this event and the occasion will also be used to celebrate the Cuban capital’s upcoming 500th birthday.
Le Diner en Blanc International Team wanted to welcome Cuba to their global community with the following message:
“Havana we’re happy to welcome you to our international family and we wish you the best of luck in the preparations leading up to this wonderful first event!”
Anyone wanting to be part of Le Diner en Blanc 2018 in Havana must adhere to the strict all-white elegant dress-code, bring a table and two chairs, together with the food-containing basket and cutlery, white crockery (no plastics allowed!), wine glasses and white linen tablecloth and napkins.
