Hotel Paseo del Prado: Fancy “ship” that will anchor in Havana in 2019
By Abel Padron Padilla
Once Hotel Paseo del Prado opens its doors next year, Cuba will boast another five-star plus facility that —resembling a ship— will welcome visitors right at the entrance of the Havana’s Bay.
At the corner of Prado and Malecon Streets, you can witness a majestic building with 250 rooms financed with Cuban money. You will also find a 118-feet high “ship’s prow”, which would certainly provide visitors with wonderful sights of the Havana’s seafront, the Castle of the Three Kings as well as the San Salvador’s Fortress.
The unique vantage point will turn into added value to the hotel, designed to please the most demanding tastes as the neighboring Packard and the Manzana Kempinski Hotels.
The construction of Hotel Paseo del Prado started on February 2017 and the deadline is scheduled for July 2019.
The hotel will have ten-stepped levels in 17, 24, and 36 meters as well as facades with enormous glass windows.
At the lower levels of the building there will be a corridor with galleries, a cigar bar, and a shopping where those who for a long time now like to go in and out the area could walk around. The swimming pool will be in the right side of the building.
The Hotel will have also an underground parking to hold up 59 light cars and ten motorcycles. Besides, the hotel will have a watertight gate to prevent water ingress in case of heavy rains or seawater intrusion.
With the purpose of preserving its durability, the building is built with materials resistant to saline environment and the strength of winds.
