PASSION FOR ART GALLERIES: GORRIA STUDIO-WORKSHOP
By Dayneris Brito
In the neighborhood of San Isidro, the heart of the Old Havana, there is a building for contemporary art: The Gorria Studio-Workshop (GTG). This is for sure one of the most interesting cultural projects in Havana.
The brain behind this marvelous idea is the famous actor Jorge Perugorria —the best actor of Cuba in the last decades. His son Adan, 20, is the one in charge of managing the studio.
“This is the first private Art Gallery that promotes contemporary art in the Old Havana. GTG is a cultural, community project that aims at having strong influence on the neighborhood of San Isidro. The idea is to attract other artists’ attention so they can build their studios here in the areas that are demolished or in a very poor condition. We are doing art in the street. We have the project of painting murals on the streets. We would like to bring the district of art here —it is now in El Vedado— so that visitors can enjoy several galleries one after the other. GTC also promotes live concerts. We carried out a workshop on architecture and urbanism for children.
Finally, we would love to host other workshops every two months,” confirmed Adan Perugorria.
