The 36th Havana’s International Ballet Festival Alicia Alonso will be held on October 28th. It will be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the National Ballet of Cuba and the 75th anniversary of the Cuban legendary ballerina’s debut with her memorable characterization of Giselle.
The American Ballet Theater —with a unique relation with the origin of the Cuban ballet company—, the New York City Ballet, the St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Ballet Theater, and the London’s Royal Ballet will also attend the Festival.
Artists from the National Ballet of Norway, the Berlin State Ballet, the Milan’s Scala, and the Teatro Colon from Buenos Aires, will also dance in Havana.
A special gala celebrating the 75th anniversary of Alicia Alonso’s debut in the role of Giselle will be held at the Avellaneda Hall. The play will be staged in other 4 ballet performances.
For the first time, Teatro Martí —theater hosting the flamenco companies of Rafael Amargo and María Juncal, as well as the Antonio Gades Foundation—will also serve as venue of the Festival along with the Covarrubias Hall and Teatro Mella (Mella Theater).
