You will live in an Airbnb house in the near future
By Brad Nash
We all know Airbnb as the company that changed tourism as it has served from other people’s properties. Samara —project division of Airbnb— has launched a new initiative addressed to design and build houses specifically with the idea of home-sharing with which Airbnb has revolutionized the market in recent years.
The initiative named Backyard is a “strong effort to design and create prototypes of new ways of building and sharing houses.” The project is launched by Joe Gebbia, Airbnb co-founder and Product Director. Its goal is to revealing all the challenges that countless Airbnb hosts have found and faced for years while offering their properties.
Can a house meet the guests’ expectations for a long period of time? Can a house keep pace with the world’s changes? Can we meet this goal? It is a challenge.
Therefore, Airbnb decided to dispense with the building trade and shape this fresh start with the purpose of implementing its philosophy of using the available space (and thus, offer your apartment while you are not at home), and address such idea to new buildings designed to be a house shared by multiple people.
“Backyard is conceived similar to Airbnb but covers more fields: architecture and building.”
